New recreation programs this fall in South Dundas

The recreation department for the Municipality of South Dundas is launching some new programs as part of the 2016-17 recreation season.

n

n “We’re really excited to expand what we can offer,” said Ben Macpherson, recreation program coordinator for South Dundas.

n

n New this year are two different Zumba classes, one for kids between eight and 14 years old, and one for adults 15-plus. Zumba is a latin-created dance and aerobic fitness class which has grown in popularity since the mid-1990’s. The classes will be held at Matilda Hall.

n

n Starting Wednesday, September 28th will be “Humpday Hockey”, pickup hockey at the Morrisburg arena. Scheduled for lunchtimes every Wednesday, players show up when they can.

n

n “They have to sign a waiver the first day, then just show up when you can after that and play,” said Macpherson.

n

n “The nice thing is there’s no commitment, pay on the day you can play and go have fun.”

n

n The popular kids art classes with Melanie Giroux are expanding to an adult art class this year. Located at the Iroquois Civic Center, the classes will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting September 21st.

n

n “We try to have programs spread all over and offer something for everyone,” stated Macpherson.

n

n “The locations are set in part by where instructors are coming to South Dundas from.”

n

n Returning programs this year include the popluar Taekowndo and Boot Camp fitness classes.

n

n The Home Alone babysitting course and kids kitchen classes will be returning as well.

n

n More information on the programs offered can be found in the new 360 guide South Dundas is releasing.

n

n “It’s going into the mail on September 9th,” said Macpherson.

n

n “Everyone should have it around the 12th, give or take.”

n

n The guides will be mailed to every home in the municipality.

n

n Registration forms can be downloaded from the municipal website. To register for a program you will need to visit the South Dundas Municipal Centre, second floor.

n

n Macpherson noted that programs are filled on a first come, first served basis and there are no reservations ahead for classes.
