Bandits shut out Jr. Cs

If penalties were goals, the Morrisburg Jr. C Lions would have only lost by one. As it was, they were shutout by the visiting Cumberland Bandits 7-0 at the Morrisburg arena on October 8th.

n Scoring opened in the first with a goal by Bandits forward Gabriel Cuillerier, assisted by Alexis Diotte and Samuel Gaudet on Lions’ goaltender Drew Nichol, 1-0 Cumberland.

n Bandits forward Alex Labrecque finished a play by teammate Nicholas Thibault in the final minute of the first giving Cumberland a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

n

n As the game became more intense with both teams being assessed three penalties each in the second period. Bandits forward Andrew Oliveria was ejected from the game for misconduct with a check from behind. The Bandits still managed to score three goals in the second period, scored by Cuillerier, Tyler Fernandes and Thibault making it 5-0 Cumberland after 40 minutes. 35 minutes of penalties were assessed between the two teams in the second.

n Lions coach Joe Hummel subsituted goalies with Eric Mantha going between the pipes in the third period.

n

n Frustration  was high for the team with more penalties being called in the third against both teams.

n

n Lions’ forward Josh Desousa, was sent to the penalty box for the rest of the game for a check to the head. The ensuring power-play led to Bandits defenceman Luke Witzel goal with eight minutes to go in the third.

n In the final minute of the game, Bandits defenceman Brandon Farris hammered the last goal of the night on Mantha.

n The score at the final whistle, Cumberland Bandits 7, Morrisburg Lions 0. The two teams combined for another 28 minutes of penalties in the third.

n A total of 65 penalty minutes were assessed for a 60 minute game, with 10 penalties against the Bandits, 9 against the Lions. Morrisburg was outshot 36-33.

n The Lions host the Papineauville Vikings on October 15th before travelling to the St-Isidore Arena to visit the Eagles on October 16th.
