The Seaway District High School junior girls basketball team had their season come to an end in Perth at the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) single-A championships with a pair of losses against the top-two seeded teams.

n “The girls had a tough pool to be in, a lot of competition,” said Seaway coach Trevor Thompson.

n The girls team was seeded in pool-A with Perth District Collegiate Institute (PDCI) and Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI). Both teams were previously double-A division schools that moved to the single-A division.

n Perth jumped to a lead on the court taking control of the game, leading 31-8 in the first half. The Blue Devils defensive play stymied Seaway’s offence.

n The Spartans could not get much traction against the Blue Devils leading to Perth winning 55-16. Cameryn Broad scored two baskets and went four-for-six in foul shots for Seaway. Anna Henderson, Krista Strader, Martina Lewis, and Maggie Joldersma all had points for Seaway.

n Abby Smith landed a three-pointer in the fourth quarter for Seaway while VanHoof, Strader, Henderson, Broad, Joldersma, and Lewis put points on the board. Broad and Henderson were top scorers for the game.

n The Red Rams took the lead early in the game and didn’t look back winning 62-26 over the Seaway Spartans, ending the team’s season.

n The Blue Devils went on to win the EOSSA championship defeating Opeongo 61-20.
n
n “We had a really good season, and an amazing group of girls,” said player Cameryn Broad.
n
n Players on the team plan on returning for next year, with a majority of the team moving up to the senior level at Seaway.

n “Our season shows that teamwork pays off,” said teammate Abby Smith.
