Demons stay alive, stomp Colts 5-1

North Dundas bounce back from 7-4 loss, avoiding eliminationnnCORNWALL – The North Dundas Demons staved off elimination in the Bantam B Rep eastern division final March 7th, beating the Cornwall Colts 5-1. The Colts were up two points in the series after beating the Demons the night before 7-4. The two teams split the regular season with a win apiece.nnQuick to avenge the loss the night before, the Demons struck first, scoring four minutes into the first period. Justin Dagenais set up linemate Xavier Leclerc, who found the back of the Colts’ net, giving the Demons the 1-0 lead.nnLeclerc added a second goal six minutes later on a breakaway, beating Colts netminder Trey O’Rourke, Demons led 2-0.nnOwen Richardson put the Demons up 3-0 in the second period off a pass from Jaymen Heuff with 4:33 left in the period.nnTwo minutes later Dagenais, on the breakaway, sent one home between the pipes, extending the Demons lead to 4-0 going into the third period.nnThe Colts tried to get something going on the ice in the third, without having much success. Mason Carr scored an unassisted goal with 10 minutes remaining in period, Demons led the Colts 5-0.nnA late-period power play ruined Demons goalie Liam Antille’s shutout. The Colts were on the power play after Nathen Verhey earned a two-minute minor for the Demons with 6:45 left in the game. Colts forward Mathier Dallaire scored on a breakaway, putting the team on the score board finally. The last period effort wasn’t enough for a comeback, with the Demons winning 5-1.nnThe Demons were zero-for-four on the power play, the Colts were one-for-seven.nnThe playoff series returns to Winchester for game three March 20th at the Joel Steele arena. Game four, if needed, will be at the Benson Centre in Cornwall March 22nd.nnThe winner of this series will take on the winner of the Leeds Chargers-Kemptville Panthers series for the league championship. That series is tied at one game apiece.
