South Dundas Recreation programs for summer

MORRISBURG – South Dundas Recreation is gearing up for the summer season with few changes to previous years’ programming planned.nn“Our popular programs are back for the summer,” recreation director Ben Macpherson told The Leader. “I am happy with the interest so far this year.”nnRecently added programs such as the High Intensity Training Program and the “Mommy and Me” classes, will be running, along with the swimming programs.nnLifeguards start on duty July 3rd at both Morrisburg and Iroquois beaches. There will be three at Morrisburg and four in Iroquois, whose duties also involve instructing in the recreation department’s swimming lesson program.nnLifeguards will be on duty at the beaches Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are no lifeguards on weekends or statutory holidays.nnFamilies interested can still sign up for the swimming program up to a week before the start of each two-week session. Lessons begin on July 3rd.nnMacpherson added that the popular Park Day in June and Beach Day in July are planned again.nn“It’s great as it ties in with the SD&G Library and Ontario Early Years,” said Macpherson.nnThe park day in June will feature some activities that lead up to the Canada 150 celebration.nn“It’s something we’ll help to build the momentum for holiday.”nnAn improvement to the washrooms this year at the Waterfront and Earl Baker parks in Morrisburg and at both beaches is the addition of timed locks for the washroom facilities.nn“The washrooms will automatically unlock between 8 a.m and 9 p.m., seven days a week,” said Macpherson.nnOne of the department’s programs that is not running this year is ball hockey. Macpherson explained that with the pending renovations and repairs at the Morrisburg Arena this summer, it would not be possible to run.
