(The Leader/Blancher photos)nnIROQUOIS – With a re-jigged schedule and a short season, the Seaway District High School senior boys soccer team hosted two teams in the Single-A high school league play May 12th. Visiting Seaway were the L’Héritage Dragons and the Tagwi Warriors.nnSeaway’s first match did not go well for the Spartans. The Dragons defense shut down any drive sent their way by Seaway. The visitors scored three goals in the first half on goalkeeper Wade Hart to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead.nnIn the second frame, the hits kept coming with the Dragons scoring two more goals. Seaway midfielder Griffin Patterson scored the lone goal for the home team late in the game to spoil the Dragons clean sheet. Final score, L’Héritage Dragons 5, Seaway Spartans 1.nnThe Spartans regrouped for their second game of the day, this time against the Tagwi Warriors.nnPatterson with the high kicknnA foul inside the 18-yard box awarded Patterson a penalty kick on Warriors goalkeeper Dean McManus. Patterson fired a shot to the right of McManus who dove for the save, missing the hammer by a foot. Seaway took a 1-0 lead into halftime.nnWarriors forward Kalin Gates ran around Seaway’s defense for a one timer on net, tying the game at one early in the second half.nnA penalty kick late in the game awarded to midfielder Lewis Ryan had Seaway regain the lead, and earn their first win of the season. Final score, Seaway Spartans 2, Tagwi Warriors 1.
