MORRISBURG – Kirk Gauvreau scored the game winning goal while Thomas Ouderkirk had two points as the Morrisburg Jr. C Lions beat the visiting Blackburn Inferno November 25th.nnBlackburn scored in the opening minute of the game, when Zakary Rodrigue put the puck past Dean Gauvreau, who started in net for the Lions. Inferno took the early 1-0 lead. The team doubled their lead two minutes later on a goal by Josh Hansen.nnAssistant captain Brian Landry set up Josh Barnes’ goal midway through the first to put Morrisburg on the scoreboard. The Lions continued to trail the Inferno 2-1.nnA late-period penalty against Morrisburg put the team on the defensive. Ouderkirk picked up the puck for the Lions, breaking away to score a short-handed goal, tying the game at 2-2.nnIn the dying seconds of the first period on a Morrisburg power play, Ouderkirk and Evan Mantha carried the puck down ice, while Anthony Pace set it home. The goal put the Lions into the lead 3-2 with 14 seconds left in the period.nnBlackburn tied the game early in the second period on a power play. The team shut down Morrisburg’s offence allowing only six shots on goal for the period, Blackburn had 17. The teams were tied 3-3 after 40 minutes of play.nnLions captain Jordan Smail broke the tie five minutes into the third period, scoring the unassisted goal to put the Lions back in the lead 4-3. Blackburn tied the game up five minutes later.nnForward Kirk Gauvreau scored what became the game winning goal with 4:50 left on the clock. Lions led the Inferno 5-4. Blackburn pulled their goalie with 37 seconds left in the game, Lions held on for the win, earning a much needed two points in the standings.
