No time line on OPP shooting report says SIU

MORRISBURG – It could take weeks or months before the Special Investigations Unit concludes its investigation of the December 23rd shooting at the OPP detachment in Morrisburg.nn“The investigation is ongoing,” said Jason Gennaro of the SIU.nnGennaro told The Leader that it is not possible to determine a time line for when the investigation will conclude, or when a final report will be released.nn“In some cases, including death cases, investigators need to wait for outside experts and agencies to complete reports, including toxicology and pathology reports,” said Gennaro.nnGennaro was unable to answer any other questions relating to the investigation.nnThe shooting in Morrisburg occurred late morning on December 23rd. The SIU evoked their mandate to investigate as the shooting involved a police officer. One officer suffered ‘undetermined injuries’. The OPP and the SIU would not comment on the condition of the officer.nnAn Iroquois area resident, Babak Saidi, 43, was killed in the shooting at the detachment.nnA December 24th media release from the SIU gave Saidi’s name to the media with consent from the family.nnLate December 23rd, Saidi’s sister identified her brother in an interview with CBC Ottawa. She also said that Saidi had schizophrenia.nnThe SIU has not confirmed any other details of the case.nn“Unless there is an investigative reason for doing so, the SIU does not confirm, share, or make public any evidence it may have collected while the investigation is ongoing,” said Gennaro.nnIn a release from the SIU on December 24th, the SIU identified one subject officer and 10 witness officers to the shooting. A post-mortem was performed on Saidi December 27th.
