Silver finish for Seaway badminton

nnCORNWALL – The midget and junior badminton teams from Seaway District High School competed in the annual SDG county tournament, held in Cornwall April 4th, with the junior-girls team of Anna Henderson and Harley Heustis finishing second overall.nnHenderson and Heustis finished their round-robin pool with a record of three wins and one loss, good for second. They took on La Citadelle team two in the quarter-finals, defeating them in two straight sets.nnFollowing that, the team moved on to the semi-finals where they met the team from Holy Trinity. The Spartans defeated the Falcons in straight sets 21-19 and 21-19.nnThis set up the junior-girls doubles final between Seaway and L’Héritage. The Dragons beat the Spartans in two straight sets 21-19 and 21-14, to take the county championship. The county tournament is the highest level for midget and junior-level badminton.nnAlso competing in the junior-girls division was the duo of Sidney Morrow and Kayla O’Neil. They finished with a record of three losses and did not advance out of their pool.nnIn the junior-boys doubles, Theo Blancher and Mitchell Cogdale advanced out of their pool with a record of three wins and one loss. They faced St. Joe’s team two in the quarterfinal, losing in two straight sets.nnBen Vreman competed for Seaway in the junior-boys singles event, but did not advance out of the round-robin competition.nnErin Gibbons and Adam Tibben were the sole midget-mixed doubles team, and played to a record of two wins, three losses. They did not advance out of their pool.nnThe senior badminton team travels to Cornwall April 11th to compete in their county-level tournament. The winners at that level move on the Eastern Ontario championship later in April.
