Delegarde seeks second term as South Dundas mayor

nnSOUTH DUNDAS – South Dundas mayor Evonne Delegarde released a statement early Monday morning announcing her intention to seek a second term as mayor of the municipality.nn”I will officially file my paper in late May,” she said in the release.nnDelegarde said that she believed they had made progress and addressed some “tough issues” to allow the municipality to move forward.nn”I wish to continue to represent the community that I love and am passionate about,” she said. “I enjoy attending community events and meeting residents, receiving feedback, and working to resolve issues and concerns in the best interests of the Municipality.”nnShe highlighted the recent Provincial Economic Development Award for the student technology partnership with Ross Video and the Upper Canada District School Board as a key step taken during this term of council.nn”I feel there is more that can happen,” Delegarde said.nnDelegarde has served on council since 2009. She first ran for council as a councillor in 2006 finishing in fourth place, and was appointed to council in 2009 following the death of then-mayor Charles Barkley. Delegarde was re-elected to the position in the 2010 municipal election. In 2014 she defeated incumbent mayor Steven Byvelds, making her the first woman to lead South Dundas.
