MORRISBURG – During the July 25th in-camera session, council committed $750,000 towards Swank Constructions proposed Dutch Meadows subdivision project west of Morrisburg. Details of that commitment were made public at the August 14th meeting when the motion from the in-camera meeting was published.nnThe municipality’s commitment to the project is broken down into two parts.nnThe municipality will provide a $350,000 contribution towards the construction of the sewage pumping station, force main, and backup gas generators.nnThe remaining $400,000 would also go towards sewer and water, but would be repaid through development fees collected during phases one and two of the four phase project. Swank Construction has plans to complete each phase every five years.nnThe municipality will extend the sewer system west of Merkley Street in Morrisburg to the new development.nnSouth Dundas has also agreed to extend municipal water services and will pay for the extension from the Morrisburg-Iroquois water main into the subdivision.nn“Our contribution solidifies the municipality’s commitment to residential growth and quality housing,” said mayor Evonne Delegarde in a release. The Dutch Meadows project was announced by Swank Construction in the fall of 2016.nnThe 54-acre project consists of 106 detached and semi-detached homes, and three condominium buildings.nnAccording to plans of the proposed development on Swank’s website, each condo building will be five stories high, with the first floor providing ground-level parking underneath: the next four floors will be condo units.nnThe project development plan originally proposed beginning infrastructure construction in 2019.nnThe Leader contacted municipal officials requesting some more details on the route of the sewer line and other aspects of the agreement including any possible impact on nearby properties. At publication of this article online, no response had been received from officials.
