(The Leader/Blancher photo)nnSOUTH DUNDAS – At the December 1st inauguration ceremony, held in the council chambers at the South Dundas Municipal Centre, the seventh council of the Municipality of South Dundas was sworn in.nnWith a packed gallery, each member of the new council individually took their oaths of office, and their seat around the council table. A new addition this year, each member of council read aloud, then signed their agreement to adhere to the code of conduct.nnThe new council consists of mayor Steven Byvelds, deputy mayor Kirsten Gardner, and councillors Lloyd Wells, Donald Lewis, and Archie Mellan.nnOPP staff sergeant Ivan Lalonde (left) and South Dundas director of corporate services/clerk Brenda Brunt (right) administer the oath of office to mayor Steven Byvelds. (The Leader/Blancher photo)nnPresenting greetings to the new council included Jamie MacDonald, mayor of North Glengarry and incoming warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry, Bryan McGillis, mayor-elect of South Stormont, and staff sergeant Ivan Lalonde from the SDG detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.nnBreaking from tradition, the inauguration was held during a special meeting. At the final meeting of the sixth council of South Dundas, the procedural by-law was suspended to allow this meeting.
