Lauzon endorses Duncan in local Conservative nomination contest

CORNWALL – Retiring member of Parliament Guy Lauzon announced Tuesday evening that he was endorsing Eric Duncan to replace him as candidate for the October 2019 federal election.nn”Having served our community for 15 years and being through 6 election campaigns, I know what it takes to be a Member of Parliament,” Lauzon said in a release. “Eric Duncan has what it takes to be successful and he has the full support of Frances and myself in his bid to become our next Member of Parliament.”nnLauzon had previously told The Leader February 1st, after hosting a pre-budget consultation in Morrisburg, that he was not endorsing any candidate at that time. Since then, he and his wife Francis have changed their mind.nn”We’ve been overwhelmed with the positive reaction and support that Eric has received from every corner of our riding. He truly deserves it,” Lauzon said, describing Duncan as smart, kind, compassionate, and hardworking.nn”He is exactly the type of candidate Andrew Scheer and our Conservative Party need for a bright future.”nnIn the same release, Duncan welcomed the endorsement from the outgoing MP.nn”It means a lot to have Guy and Frances’ support during the nomination process,” Duncan said.  “They have been wonderful role models and mentors to look up to.”nnThe Conservative Party of Canada’s Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry riding association has not set a nomination date as of yet. Adrian Bugelli with the riding association said that the party’s executive council handles triggering the nomination process. He said he expected that the nomination period would take approximately 40 days and should be wrapped up by the end of April.nnNo other candidates have come forward yet seeking the CPC nomination locally other than Duncan. The Liberal, NDP, and Green riding associations have not held nominations yet for its candidates for the fall election yet either. Voters will head to the polls October 19th.
