(The Leader/Blancher photo) nnWILLIAMSTOWN – Having opened the season with four consecutive losses, the Seaway Spartans girls soccer team picked up their first win of the season in a decisive way, a 3-0 shut out win over the St. Lawrence Saints May 13th.nnThe match was the second half of a doubleheader hosted in Williamstown.nnCameron Broad put the Spartans in the lead in the first half, scoring on a penalty awarded against the Saints. Seaway led 1-0 at halftime.nnStriker Kristyn Van Hoof added an insurance goal early in the second half, extending Seaway’s lead to 2-0. A penalty kick awarded to Anna Henderson late in the second half sealed the Saints’ fate.nnThe Spartans won their first match of the season and keeper Martina Lewis earned her first clean sheet in goal this year.nnSeaway Spartans forward Colin Minish challenges a Holy Trinity Falcons’ defender in the first half of their match in Iroquois May 9th. The Spartans were shutout at home 5-0.nnLeading up to the win, the team had lost their earlier match of the day, a 1-0 loss to the Char-Lan Crusaders, and two games on May 9th. The first a 2-0 loss to the St. Joe’s Panthers, followed by a 2-1 loss to Holy Trinity Falcons.nnThe Spartans girls’ team have a record of one win and four losses at the midway point of the season. The regular season wraps up with five games over two day May 16-17th.nnWhile the girls team has found some success on the soccer pitch, the boys team has not yet this season. The team remain winless this season losing to the St. Joe’s Panthers 2-0 and Holy Trinity Falcons 5-0 on May 9th; and losing to the Char-Lan Crusaders 2-0, and the St. Lawrence Saints 3-0.nnThe boys team sits in the bottom of the 11 team standings and finish out the season with a triple-header on May 16th, and a doubleheader May 17th.
