South Dundas United win series against Strikers

United U-11s earn first win – The South Dundas United Under-11 team played its first friendly-match of the season July 23rd in Long Sault. They took on the South Stormont Strikers in a home-and-home friendly series. United, comprised of players from the South Dundas Soccer Under-11 Spring/Summer league, defeated the Strikers 7-1 in the first game, 5-2 in the second game on July 29th. nnIROQUOIS – South Dundas United’s Under-11 team won its first home-and-home series against the South Stormont Strikers.nnThe first match, held in Long Sault July 23rd, saw United build a 4-0 lead by half-time against the Strikers.nnParker Dake, Nick Carrothers, Hayden deBoer, and Carter Froats scored in the first half. Dake, Jake Thompson, and Simon Martens scored in the second half. Evan Ruttley scored for the Strikers on a penalty kick late in the game. United defeated the Strikers 7-1 to take game one.nnThe second leg of the series was played in Iroquois on July 29th.nnThe Strikers took an early 1-0 lead in the game when Ruttley found his way past United goalkeeper Christian Shattler.nnAbout 15 minutes into the game, Dake tied the game up for United, then Carrothers put the team ahead 2-1. United led the Strikers into the second half.nnSouth Stormont tied the game less than five minutes into the half thanks to a goal by Brayden Carr. The teams remained tied until the final 15 minutes of play. Dake scored his second goal of the game to put United ahead 3-2. Carrothers and deBoer each scored to make it a 5-2 win for South Dundas.nnUp next: South Dundas United will host their neighbours to the north, North Dundas United in the first of a two-game series on August 6th.
