Coroner’s Inquest ordered in December 2017 Morrisburg OPP shooting

nnOTTAWA – Regional supervising coroner Dr. Louise McNaughton-Fillon announced that a coroner’s inquest will be held into the 2017 fatal shooting that occurred at the Morrisburg Ontario Provincial Police Detachment.nnThe inquest will examine the shooting death of 43-year-old Babak Saidi from Iroquois, who was killed December 23, 2017 outside the detachment office on Fifth Street.nnA release from the East Region provincial coroner’s office says an inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. The inquest jury may make recommendations to attempt preventing future deaths.nnDr. Bob Reddoch will preside over the inquest.nnThe province’s Special Investigations Unit released a report in Feburary 2019 saying there was “no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges.”nnNo details was given as to when, where, or how long the coroner’s inquiry will last.
