Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for Morrisburg

nnUPDATED AUGUST 17 – The boil water advisory is no longer in effect.nnSOUTH DUNDAS – A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect for water users in Morrisburg. The municipality is advising all residents in the village to boil their tap water after a water pressure issue occurred Sunday evening (August 15) at around 9 P.M.nnSouth Dundas CAO Shannon Geraghty told The Leader that the “status system” used to monitor the water pumps in Morrisburg shut down. The pump system was put in place in July after the Morrisburg water tower was taken offline due to a rehabilitation project.nn”Crews went in and restarted the pumps last night manually, and a backup system from [provider] Capital Controls was put in this morning,” Geraghty said adding that municipal officials will be meeting with the contractor later today (August 16).nnWater in Iroquois is unaffected by this advisory as that village’s water tower was recently recommissioned after an extensive rehabilitation. South Dundas is in the middle of a $2.2 million rehab project for its two water towers.nnThe advisory will remain in effect until results from water testing samples are returned, which Geraghty expects would be on Tuesday.nnThe Morrisburg splashpad has also been closed as a result of this advisory.nnUsers of the water system in Morrisburg should boil water for at least one minute before consumption, or use bottled water until the advisory is lifted. For handwashing, use tap water and soap, followed by an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. While the water is safe for bathing, young children should not take baths or showers as they are more likely to ingest water.
