(The Leader/Blancher photo)nnMORRISBURG – Playing in only the team’s second home game this season, the Morrisburg Lions picked up their first home win October 31, beating the Almonte Inferno 6-2.nnThe Lions took a three goal lead in the first period and traded goals with the Inferno in the second. Morrisburg led Almonte 4-1 into the third period. Lions Jordan Serson and Kayne McCadden took advantage of a depleted Inferno defence, scoring a goal each in the third period. Almonte responded, scoring once with about 10 minutes remaining in the game. Lions win 6-2.nnJordan Serson had a pair of goals in the game, while Landen Sinfield, Noelan Spink, and captain Wade Moak each scored once in the game.nnThe Lions improve to a record of two wins and five losses in the season and move into seventh place in the league. Morrisburg is two points behind the Vankleek Hill Cougars for sixth place.nnTwo nights before, the Lions lost 11-5 to the Gatineau Hull-Volant. Scoring for Morrisburg were Moak (two goals), and McCadden, Justin Leroux, and Jonah Bennis with a goal apiece.nnLions’ Head Coach Lance Hodgson told The Leader that he was very happy with how the team played this weekend.nn“They played well all weekend,” he said. “The energy was there. We had all lines going.”nnHodgson explained that the goal scoring this weekend was throughout the team.nn“We had goals scored up and down the line up.”nnHe said that even though the Gatineau match resulted in an 11-5 loss, the Lions kept up for most of the game.nn“We took a nap for about five-or-10 minutes there and with a team like Gatineau, you just can’t get back in,” Hodgson said.nnThe coach commended goalie Dawson Irving’s play in the Almonte game.nn“Dawson really deserved that win,” Hodgson said. “He’s faced a lot of shots in the few games we’ve played and for us to get him the win like that Sunday, that’s a real confidence boost for him – and the team.”nnUp next, the Lions hit the road this weekend. On November 6 they will play the Inferno in a rematch of the past weekend.nnHodgson said going into Almonte’s home arena, he is expecting a challenge.nn“[The Inferno] were short staffed on Sunday afternoon so I am expecting a different showing from that team at their home,” he said. “Maybe they’ll come out a bit stronger. I haven’t seen this team much in regular season action so I don’t know.”nnHe said that the Lions have to come out strong, just like they did Sunday.nn“We have to keep our feet moving, keep the puck going forward, keeping it simple, and get the puck into the net,” Hodgson said. “If we can do that, I can see us taking away another win.”nnAfter the Almonte game, the Lions will take on the Hull-Volant in Gatineau, November 7. The Lions’ next home game is November 13 against St. Isidore.
